Tasting Notes

A Pinot Noir of vibrant ruby hue and complex aromatic profile of rich earthiness, beautifully lined by bright strawberries. On the palate, the medium body delivers a harmonious experience with subtle earthy note undertones, savory notes, hints of black cherry, and a silky, smooth finish. The flavors of ripe red berries and nuanced minerality lead to a lingering, elegant conclusion.

AVA:

‍Santa Maria Valley, CA

Oaking/Aging Notes:

‍Aged in 7 months in neutral French oak barrels to enhance its rich flavor profile and add depth to its complexity, smooth tannins, but maintain its refreshing acidity

Recommended Food Pairings:

‍Roast duck accented with a puree of dark cherries, mushroom risotto, and/or a variety of soft cheeses.

Special Notes About the Region/Varietal:

‍Located in the cool climate of the Santa Maria Valley AVA wine region, the Riverbench Vineyard with its limestone-rich soils benefits from the ideal conditions of a long growing season that fosters slow ripening and complex flavor development. The combination of maritime influences and well-draining soils contributes to the wine’s refined structure and vibrant acidity. Our passion for old-world varietal wines is evident in this Pinot Noir; capturing the essence of Burgundy while celebrating the unique characteristics of the Santa Maria Valley terroir. A sister grape varietal to the earthy Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir exerts more fruit forward characteristics, which makes it an ideal base for our sparkling wines. Traditionally, Cellar Beast sources this grape variety from Willamette Valley to create an earthier, darker wine, but this departure to a more fruit-forward region of California has been well received.
