Special Notes About the Region/Varietal

AVA Yakima Valley – warm days, cool nights, and multiple soil types to express subtle varietal variations. With delicate flavors from its proprietary grape combination of six red wine varieties, this dry wine Rosé embodies the ingenuity and craft that inspires it. Saignée adds focus and terroir complexity for a wine that’s as active as it is energizing.

Yakima Valley is a landmark in US wine history. Established in 1983, it was the first AVA (American Viticultural Area) in Washington State. This original label reflects the region’s traditional ability to make premium wines. In more than 100 years of viticultural history, Yakima Valley has set the bar for excellence and innovation in its ability to produce wines that express the richness and complexity of its soil.

Perhaps the most remarkable feature of Yakima Valley is its soil mix of volcanic ash, sandy sand, and silt. Such diverse soils let fine-grained flavor notes emerge in the grapes, giving winemakers an entire palette to make wines with complexity and depth. The minerality and acidity of the 2023 Rosé Blend are a direct outcome of this particular geological variation, further enriching the wine’s fruity flavors and crisp acidity.

The climate of the area plays a part, too, in influencing the 2023 Rosé Blend. The Yakima Valley’s warm, sunlit days help to bring the grapes to their maximum potential, and cool nights maintain their natural acidity. This extreme daytime temperature shift not only holds the bright notes but also accentuates the wine’s body and structure, keeping it cool and expressive of its place of origin.

Our 2023 Rosé Blend has a genuinely novel winemaking philosophy. The sommeliers have produced a symphony of refreshing flavors using six varieties, to include Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, from fresh fruit flavors of raspberry, flavors of cherries, delicate red berries, and a fruity nose to floral and citrus notes. Each variety adds something, becoming more than just the wide variety of grapes. That creative vision results in a layered but accessible pink wine that will please wine professionals and novices alike. Although rosés are made in a range of sweetness levels, this type of wine was finished with zero residual sugar to preserve the natural fruity qualities.

The Saignée method made this Rosé a symbol of the winemaker’s commitment to technique and quality. By "bleeding" juice from red wine fermentation tanks, it intensifies the Rosé and red wine left over. This skin contact method leaves you with a wonderfully concentrated wine with a bright color and fruit that captures the essence of the grapes. The approach also means the Rosé retains the lively acidity and freshness typical of Yakima Valley terroir. After the juice is bled from the fermentation tanks, the rosé is treated like a white wine from white grapes throughout the winemaking process.

Distinct from a Loire Valley or Rhone Valley-style rosé, this pink wine is closer to a Provence style. Rosés de Provence is known for its fresh florals, and Rioja for its boldness, as noted by James Suckling. Yakima Valley’s 2023 Rosé Blend makes its own identity. It combines the Old World's sophistication with the New World's sweetness for the most discerning wine lovers. A type of wine with crisp acidic finish and full-bodied flavor emerges alone as an adaptable, forward vehicle for the Yakima Valley’s distinctive terroir and winemaking ingenuity.
