The Wahluke Slope AVA is situated 45 minutes north of Yakima Valley wine country and is nestled in the hip of the Yakima River. The river provides a cooler climate to the vineyards of the Wahluke Slope allowing the variety of wine from this region to retain vibrant acidity which is especially crucial for Alsatian wine varieties such as Pinot Gris and other popular wines to help produce a slight sweetness. The pinkish-gray hue to the Pinot Grigio grape variety causes the color of the juice to transition between white, pink and even oranges during the wine making process, with orange becoming more pronounced after more exposure to the grapes skins as with other skin contact wine.
Pinot Gris is the French rendition of the Italian Pinot Grigio, with notable difference in the body, Pinot Grigio is lighter-bodied, and in the flavor palate as Gris has deeper citrus notes, like mango and papaya, as opposed to Pinot Grigio's lighter citrus notes of lemon and lime.
