The Royal Slope AVA, established in 2020, is one of Washington’s newest and most exciting appellations. Perched at higher elevations than many surrounding AVAs, Royal Slope benefits from a long growing season with warm days and cool nights. These conditions allow Pinot Gris to develop vibrant aromatics, concentrated fruit character, and a crisp natural acidity—perfect for crafting wines in a refined Alsatian style.
Pinot Gris, the French counterpart to Italy’s Pinot Grigio, is known for being fuller-bodied and offering deeper citrus and tropical notes—think mango, papaya, and ripe pear—compared to Pinot Grigio’s leaner lemon and lime profile. The grape’s distinctive pinkish-gray skins can lend a subtle blush hue to the juice, particularly when there is extended skin contact during fermentation.
Our 2023 Pinot Gris highlights the purity and freshness of Royal Slope fruit, balancing lively acidity with round fruit flavors and a silky texture. This vintage is especially food-friendly, pairing beautifully with fresh seafood, soft cheeses, and light pasta dishes.
